Synopsis

Made by photogrammetrically scanning everyday objects and collaging the resulting 3D models together in a computer graphics program, the Digital Landscapes evoke an alien yet somehow familiar terrain. This terrain has neither foreground nor background, neither horizon nor a perspectival vanishing point, and is almost monochromatic. depicted from some unfathomable hight above, the scale of the landscapes is hard to determine. They could have been photographed from space or using a microscope. Stylistically, they appear to contradict themselves, merging hyperrealism with an abstract expressionist sensibility. They are more detailed than a painting could ever be, and on closer inspection, reveal a geometric digital texture that also distinguishes them from photography. I think of them as eschatological, showing the detritus of the digital age.
