The two axioms that bind my different projects to each other are the loose concept of photography and the even more loose concept of structure. Photography means something opposite to structure to me, something completely open…both open and fragmentary, a dark universal space onto which almost any local identity can be projected. And I think of structure in terms of instruments. Each series has a structure and each structure is an instrument with which I can improvise different images.

The fields of tension that are created between the different series are in a sense as important to me as the series in their isolated coherent state.
